WHAT'S NEW?

Traffic Safety Team

The City of Calgary has launched a specialized unit of eight peace officers and two sergeants who will focus on enforcing speed limits in playground zones, addressing noisy vehicle violations, and other bylaw infractions.

This dedicated team aims to improve mobility safety and reduce traffic related risks through targeted enforcement, education, and collaboration.

Residents can continue to report concerns as they currently do through 311, which allows you to file complaints related to traffic noise, speeding, parking violations, and other traffic safety issues.

SPEED AWARENESS

April is speed awareness month across Alberta, and we want to remind you that speed limits are posted as the maximum for ideal conditions.

As drivers, we are responsible for adjusting our speed based on road conditions that make roads hazardous - like sun glare, snow/slush, surface quality, poor visibility (night, fog, rain).

Just because you're not exceeding the speed limit doesn't mean you're driving safely for the conditions.

Speeding is one of the top contributors to traffic injuries and deaths in our city. Every kilometre over the speed limit increases the risk of a crash.

For tools and resources against speeding, visit calgary.ca/BeSafe

RESIDENTIAL STREET SWEEPING

The annual Spring Clean-up program is set to begin on Monday, April 14.

The City sweeps over 17,000 lane km of paved roads to maintain a clean and safe environment for pedestrians, motorists and cyclist.

To avoid parking tickets, please check online to find out when street sweeping is scheduled for your road: calgary.ca/roads/maintenance/spring-street-cleaning

BRANCHING OUT PROGRAM

The Branching Out Program aims to increase our City's tree canopy by providing trees to residents for FREE.

Each address can register for up to 2 trees, with a variety of species to choose from.

Important note: though the City is giving away 5000 trees, registration does not guarantee receiving a tree due to the high demand.

To register, you must complete the e-learning module on how to plant a tree. For detailed information about the program and how to register, visit: calgary.ca/BranchingOut

Registration for the NE quadrant opens on Monday, April 21 at 10AM!

Pick up information

Whitehorn Transit Station Parking Lot (3914 34 St NE)

  • Saturday, May 31, 10AM-4PM
  • Sunday, June 1, 10AM-3PM

Any leftover trees will be given away on a first come first served basis.

COMPOST GIVEAWAY

FREE compost will be available to residents for pickup from April 14 to May 31.

This compost can be used in yards and gardens to save on soil amendments and fertilizers, and is produced from the food scraps and yard waste collected from your green carts!

Residents must book an appointment online, and pickup from either the Spyhill or Shepard landfill.

NOTE: April 14 - May 3 timeslots are fully booked, mark your calendars for April 29 at 8AM for the next available appointment times to open.
