Ward 7 Project Engagement Activities

Memorial Parkway Program

To help increase flood resiliency and create spaces that enhance the connection with the river, and natural environment and commemorate our heritage, The City is combining this work through the Memorial Parkway Program that will see the flood barrier combined with new spaces for commemoration, vibrant and dynamic public spaces, and opportunities for a reimagined Memorial Drive with enhanced ways to get around.

Help guide future development, including the flood barrier and the Memorial Parkway by filling out the three questions survey that's open until July 15, 2022.

Inclusive Playgrounds

Share your expereinces at City's inclusive playgrounds to help with potential future design features on the next round of accessible playground builds.

Indian Residential School Memorial Project

This engagement process is focused on gathering input from Indigenous community members and Indigenous-serving community agencies and organizations.

Share your thoughts about Chinatown to help local artist Jarett Sitter to create visual interest for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Announcements

Downtown Calgary Development Incentive Program

These two projects will infuse life into largely empty or underutilized office buildings by converting empty office space into new residential units while bringing people and vibrancy into the Downtown West and Eau Claire that are quiet and commercially focused.

The City’s efforts to reduce vacancy and our support for office to residential conversions are all about creating vibrancy and bolstering thriving downtown communities and these two projects, along with a previously announced project will help make this a reality in the west end of the Downtown Core.”

Canadian Centre

[833 4 Avenue SW]

An estimate of 163,000 sq. ft. of office space into a mixed-use residential tower with approximately 225 units as well as café, patio, restaurant, bike parking and repair facilities, and gathering spaces.

United Place

[808 4 Avenue SW]

An estimate of 88,000 sq. ft. of office space into a mixed-use residential tower with approximately 81 units as well as in-house daycare and plaza activity.

9 Ave SW Bridge Replacement

Parallel to the Canadian Pacific rail tracks, 9 Avenue reflects the history of the confluence of community and culture – east to west – for locals and people from afar. The new bridge will expand the opportunities for intersection and collaboration.

Jaipur Bridge

The new Jaipur Bridge will re-establish a direct connection between Prince’s Island Park and the community of Eau Claire once again. The involvement of the residents and businesses throughout this project was invaluable – the new bridge adds character and new life to this area. It will continue to be an important gathering place for Calgarians to enjoy for decades to come.

Council of Communities [COC]

This quarter's COC focused on the Council's Strategic Direction 2023-2026 for the next four years and safety.

The City is also going through its Rethink to Thrive organizational realignment, encompassing planning, capital, operations, programs and services and corporate governance and more coordination, resiliency and better outcomes; committed to social equity, economic resilience and climate responsibility.

Platform Calgary

This investment supports the development of local entrepreneurs and startups. I am thrilled to see the East Village evolve into a tech hub that makes critical resources more accessible for people to develop their businesses, grow locally and connect within a thriving ecosystem. Spaces like Platform help to attract more workers downtown and retain top talent in Calgary.

Inflation Review

2023-2026 tax rates must recognize inflation. In May 2022, the inflation rate for the Calgary Census Metropolitan Area (CMA), measured as the year-over-year increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), was 8.0 percent. Calgary’s May 2022 inflation reached the highest rate seen in nearly 20 years, since December 2002; the inflation rate was higher than the inflation rate in Alberta and Canada.

Climate Strategy

After hours of engagement with the community, a 99-page Pathways to 2050 report & robust council debates, on July 5 the Climate Strategy passed on 9-6 votes. This is the 1st right step on a road toward more tangible policies, plans & procedures which prioritizes investment in our people & the planet. Click to learn about Terry's position.
