OCTOBER / 24

September Success Story:

This Whitehorn alley was in significant need of some TLC. Residents reached out for assistance, and we were able to obtain support from Waste & Recycling Services to do an emergency clean up. Thank you to the neighbours of the alley and the Whitehorn Community Association who came together to help rejuvenate this space. Together, we collected 2380 kgs (5247 lbs) of garbage!

October's Town Hall will be hosted in Abbeydale.

Join me whether you have questions, concerns, or just want to listen to the topics of discussion in your community📣

BUDGET MID-CYCLE ADJUSTMENTS

Every year, the City of Calgary refines its service plans and budgets to adapt to current economic factors and ensure that they are responding to the needs of Calgarians. On September 16, Administration shared a preview of the proposed adjustments that will be presented in November.

From November 18 - 22, Council will deliberate and decide on these adjustments to the plans and budgets.

This is your chance to make your voice heard regarding the most important investments for our community. You can provide written feedback online or register to speak directly in Council. To participate and learn more about the proposed adjustments, visit calgary.ca/our-finances/budget-adjustments

Your input is crucial in shaping a budget that reflect the priorities of all Calgarians!

2025 PRE-ROLL CONSULTATION

Commercial property owners can participate in a Pre-Roll Consultation Period to review their preliminary 2025 assessment values. From October 1 to November 15, non-residential and multi-residential property owners can preview and provide input into their upcoming property assessment.

This is a valuable opportunity for property owners to ensure their assessments accurately reflect current market conditions and property values. Engaging in this consultation allows you to voice any concerns and gain insights that may influence the final assessment.

To take advantage of this program and to discuss details before the assessment roll is finalized, visit calgary.ca/property-owners/assessment/pre-roll-consultation-period

WHAT'S NEW?

Vehicle Noise

Council has directed Administration to draft a bylaw specifically addressing vehicle noise, including requirements for measurement and enforcement. To support this initiative, acoustic sensors will be strategically placed across the city to monitor and analyze noise levels at identified hotspots, based on resident complaints.

This data will be collected to identify problematic areas, as well as where to guide enforcement efforts. The comprehensive program is set to address vehicle noise and enhance community traffic safety is set to launch later this year. Active vehicle noise enforcement is planned for spring 2025.

Bearspaw Feeder Main

The critical sections of the pipe requiring urgent repair have been successfully addressed. While a long-term strategy for the feeder main is still necessary, the City has significantly mitigated the risk of another catastrophic failure. Additionally, enhanced monitoring is in place to ensure ongoing safety and reliability.

While the pipe was undergoing repairs, a third-party consultant conducted a detailed forensics report. This includes comprehensive results from the PipeDiver inspection, as well as soil and structural analysis of the pipe.

This thorough examination will provide valuable insights into the pipe's condition and potential future maintenance needs. The final report is expected to be completed and ready for review by the end of October.

Green Line LRT

The City of Calgary and the Province of Alberta have been working together to ensure that the Green Line LRT revised alignments minimize the costs and risks to the City and Calgarians.

The investments that have been made are valuable assets that will help contribute to the overall development, despite the realignment.
