WHAT'S NEW?

DMAP Upgrades

The City of Calgary's development map has recently been upgraded.

This tool is especially important as the citywide rezoning took effect yesterday, August 6.

Using DMap, you can view detailed plans and renderings for proposed developments, identify potential impacts on surrounding properties, and provide your comments when an application is under review.

Applying the new 3D views, you can toggle a sunlight and shadow cast tool.

Visit calgary.ca/development to learn more about the process and explore the newly upgraded DMap.

Scotia Place

The new Scotia Place will support Calgary as a premier host city, both locally and globally, while driving community growth and our regional economy.

Opening in 2027, Scotia Place will be city hub for everyone - with a community ice rink, outdoor and indoor plazas, restaurants & more, along with hospitality and commercial development opportunities.

This marks the beginning of a new era of entertainment and investment in Calgary

Eco Centres

Formerly known as Throw 'n' Go, Eco Centres are self-sorting facilities now located at three landfills—East Calgary, Spyhill, and Shepard. Eco Centres accept a wide range of items that you can't dispose of in your bins at home.

Free drop-off items include:

  • car tires
  • foam packaging
  • household hazardous waste (e.g. chemicals and lightbulbs)
  • electronics
  • paper + packaging
  • clothing, shoes + textiles
  • automotive (e.g. motor oil + filters, car batteries)
  • propane/ helium tanks + fire extinguishers

Check out calgary.ca/ecocentres for locations and other acceptable items.

GREEN LINE LRT

Last week, Council voted 10-5 in favour of the changes to the Green Line LRT project. The approved changes include a budget increase of $705 million and the removal of six stations from Phase 1 of the project.

I voted against these proposed adjustments, along with Councillors Sharp, McLean, Wyness and Chu.

WATER MAIN THIRD-PARTY REVIEW

In response to the critical water main rupture in June, a comprehensive third-party review of our water pipeline system will be conducted starting this Fall. This independent panel of experts will focus on investigating the factors that contributed to the pipe failure, and examining current practices for inspection and asset sustainability.

Council has directed that the panel is comprised by entities outside of the City of Calgary Administration, to ensure that the review is conducted without any bias or conflict of interest.

Thank you for your continued commitment to water conservation as we navigate these necessary water restrictions, your efforts have been crucial in balancing the supply and demand for water in our community.

CITYWIDE REZONING

Yesterday marked the implementation of the citywide rezoning changes. For those seeking to understand the implications of these changes, I encourage you to visit the City of Calgary's website: www.calgary.ca/planning/projects/rezoning-for-housing

There, you can find detailed information about the new zoning regulations and access the 'Council Decision' section to review the amendments made to the original recommendations.

It is vital for residents to stay informed and engaged as we navigate these changes together. I remain committed to advocating for a balanced approach to development that respects our community's needs and values.

WARD 10 CONNECTIONS: WHAT WE HEARD REPORT

The "What We Heard" report for the Ward 10 Connections project is now available. This report summarizes the valuable feedback gathered during the Phase 1 engagement.

The project aims to develop dedicated pathway and bikeway routes in the neighborhoods of Pineridge, Temple, Rundle, and Whitehorn, enhancing safety and accessibility for all community members. The feedback collected will inform the next phases of the project, ensuring that the design reflects the needs and concerns of residents.

Looking ahead, Phase 2 this Fall/Winter will focus on developing design options based on the insights gained from the first phase. This next stage will provide opportunities for the community to review and provide feedback on proposed pathways and bikeways, ensuring that the final designs meet local needs effectively.
