Building Vibrant and Safe Communities
Together
At the April 16th Community Development Committee, Councillor Wong moved three key agenda items that reflect Ward7's top priorities: public safety, resilient communities, and accessible, welcome public spaces.
- Calgary Police Service 2024 Annual Report: Encouraging progress with fewer gun crimes, improved mental health response protocols, and growing investment in proactive community safety.
- Calgary Fire Department 2024 Annual Report: Calgary’s fire crews continue to demonstrate outstanding professionalism, particularly in emergency medical response and public education efforts. Their service sets a high standard citywide.
- Enhanced Maintenance & Infrastructure Agreement Policy Update: This update cuts through red tape and empowers community associations to directly invest in the parks and green spaces that matter most to their residents.
Councillor Wong remains committed to advancing practical, community-first solutions that strengthen every corner of Ward 7.

CITY INITIATIVES AND EVENTS
On May 24 the City of Calgary’s Parks and Open Spaces will be partnering with EcoLogic Horticulture to revitalize Rotary Park with native plants. The planting will take place around the lion statue at the south end of the park.
Leading up to the event, a fence will be installed around the statue to allow Parks to prepare the site. Herbicides will be applied to remove non-native grass, with signage posted at the park entrance and the treated area detailing the product used and application date. The fence will be removed after planting day.
The Parks team will be planting native shrubs, forbs, and grasses. Adding native plants to park spaces and your own yard or balcony has numerous benefits, including improved soil quality, reduced watering needs, and support for local pollinators.
