Hello Ward 12,

Exciting news for the future of the Green Line in the SE!

Phase 1 procurement for the Green Line LRT project is underway as the Green Line Board releases the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the largest infrastructure project in our City’s history. You can read more about this HERE.

Don Fairbairn (Chair, Green Line Board) and Darshpreet Bhatti (Green Line, CEO) presented their Q1 update on the Green Line back in January. If you have been following this project you will know that there are considerable concerns about cost overruns. This is due, in large part, to the combined pressures of supply chain, inflation, and competing projects. It is extremely unfortunate that delays have forced this second attempt at procurement to start alongside these considerable external pressures. Despite the challenges, The Green Line Board are confident that The City has brought together the right team with the right skills to tackle these issues.

Council is very interested in the updated cost estimates that will come as the procurement process unfolds. I have heard many concerns about the technical difficulties of getting the Green Line through downtown. We were reassured that the team is doing their research into previous projects and are following the latest technologies in this field. When Green Line construction begins downtown, it will have been preceded by thorough consideration surrounding the challenges this project will face.

Ward 12 needs the Green Line. Previous LRT projects faced very similar setbacks and concerns dating back to 1977. Smart decision making and perseverance are needed again to see this project out the other side to realize all the benefits. Investing in the Green Line is investing in the future of our City and Ward.

If you have a concern about City services, we kindly request you first submit it to 311. Our advocacy on your behalf generally requires a Service Request number that you receive when you log your concern with them. March was Community Association Awareness Month!

Community associations support neighbourhoods throughout Calgary by serving the needs of their residents and providing a voice for community life. Led by volunteers, these associations offer social, educational and recreational opportunities close to home.

Community associations are dedicated to making sure our communities offer a great place to live, work and play.

Did you know there are 152 registered community associations in Calgary, and 20,000 active volunteers who contribute 2.4 million hours of public service annually?

Ward 12 has six great community associations to serve our area. These are:

McKenzie Towne Community Association

New Brighton Community Association

Copperfield & Mahogany Community Association

Auburn Bay Community Association

Cranston Community Association

Shepard Community Association

Our Ward also has Residents Associations, commonly known has Homeowner Associations, in many of our neighbourhoods. So, what’s the difference? Read more on our Facebook post HERE.

The 2022 Pathway and River Cleanup is May 13 - 15, 2022. Registration for the Pathway and River Cleanup is open from now until April 13.

During the annual cleanup event, thousands of registered volunteers collect garbage in every quadrant of the city. Each year volunteers help remove litter in Calgary’s parks, greenspaces and along nearly 300 kilometres of pathways and river banks.

This year, Ward 12 has roughly a dozen locations to request. You can see all the spots (and which ones have already been assigned) on this map HERE.

See Pathway and River Cleanup for more information and to register.

Interested in having our Ward 12 team come help your group's clean up? Email ward12@clagary.ca when and where you'll be and we will do our best to be there!

The City of Calgary, in partnership with Nature Canada and Bird Friendly Calgary, needs your help in picking an official bird for YYC.

Did you know that Calgary is home to over 200 birds species? Some live here year round, while others just visit while migrating.

Now we’re choosing a bird to represent our city, raise awareness about how important urban wildlife and biodiversity is, and to celebrate Calgary’s birds.
