Community Signs Repair - Sponsored Notice of Motion

The community sign in Citadel is an example of one in need of repair. 

  You may have noticed that Community Name Signs across the ward (and city), like the one above, are in various states of disrepair.  I've received complaints from residents who want to improve community signs but have struggled to navigate who owns the sign.

  In order to address this issue across Calgary, I brought forward a Notice of Motion to direct Administration to do the following:

     1) Conduct an assessment of the number, location & ownership of community signs

     2) Identify the signs that require repair; estimate the costs for maintenance

     3) Assess the current legislative tools governing community sign maintenance

     4) Assess the process of creating or approving signage through the planning           approvals and construction process

I'm pleased to say this motion was passed by Council, 14-1. I will continue to update you as we learn more!

Addressing Catalytic Converter Theft

    Catalytic Converter theft is a major issue in Calgary and across Canada. I've heard directly from several residents, police officers, and Community Associations about how this has impacted them. On July 4, Council and I voted to make changes to the Business License Bylaw in order to deter theft and better regulate businesses and individuals in possession of unattached catalytic converters. These changes will help ensure only legitimate buyers and sellers are involved in the trade of converters.

Park n' Play

Park n' Plays are outdoor programs hosted by the City of Calgary that occur in community greenspaces and parks. They offer a variety of programs with different activities including crafts, games, and active play, for ages 6-12. They also offer Stay n' Play options for ages 3-5 with an accompanied adult. Ward 3 has a few locations in both July and August: 

July 17-21; Hidden Valley School

July 24-28; Panorama Hills School

July 31-Aug 8; Simons Valley School

August 21-28; Nose Creek School

Spots are given on a first come first serve basis, so mark your calendars in advance! For the full list of locations, see here.

  • This year I will be partnering with ROYOP and VIVO as part of the Coventry Hills Stampede Caravan Breakfast. We'll be at the Michael's parking lot in the Coventry Hills Centre from 9-11AM. Come enjoy some free pancakes!

  • 9-11 AM at the Alliance Church
• April-September - City supported Community Cleanups begin this month and continue into early fall. Find a drop off location near you here.
