 March 2024 Newsletter

March 20, 2024

Dear ,

Spring is just around the corner, and major conversations are happening at City Hall.

Right now, City Administration is recommending more flexible zoning to increase housing supply. I've made a short video summarizing what this means, and why it's being brought forward.

Rezoning Town Hall

To hear from residents directly, I am hosting a virtual town hall on April 15.  If you would like to submit questions in advance of the town hall, please fill out the form HERE.

You can view the City's information sessions and more details about rezoning here.

Council News

The outdoor rink in Sandstone has come to the end of its lifecycle and needs to be rebuilt or torn out. The 32 year old rink is owned and operated by the Sandstone MacEwan Community Association. Their board and volunteers have worked very hard to fundraise for the rink replacement, so that we can keep this great amenity for the next generation of families in the community!

Last month, I worked with the CA to bring a funding request to Council. We were successful in securing an additional $300,000 from the Council Community Fund to put towards their rebuild, which brings them within $100,000 of their fundraising goal. I'm so pleased to see this re-investment back into our community!

The Sandstone MacEwan Community Association is so close to their goal now and is asking members of the community for donations to get the project across the line. You can donate here.

In the Ward

The parcel in question is marked with an X.

Harvest Hills x 96 Ave NE Development Open House

The city is hosting an open house on April 2, 5-7PM at the Harvest Hills Alliance Church to discuss a proposal to put affordable housing on a parcel of land on the corner of 96 Ave and Harvest Hills Blvd. The site is currently undeveloped grass that was earmarked to be a park n’ ride for the future green line.

I encourage any residents with questions or concerns about this proposal to attend the open house. For more information, why it's being proposed, and what it means for the future of the Green Line, view my website here.

Livingston and Carrington: On Demand Transit Provider Changes

Transit in Livingston and Carrington is provided via Route 124 and the On Demand system. The On Demand service allows customers to book a trip on the app and connect to North Pointe Terminal where they can access other routes.

The contract with the City's current provider is coming to an end, and Via Transportation has been selected to deliver the On Demand service in Carrington and Livingston. Via Transportation will take over service delivery starting March 27. Customers will need to download the new On Demand Calgary Transit app in order to continue using the service.

The City will be reaching out to current customers to let them know about these changes directly via email and through the app. If you're a current customer, mark your calendars for the change. Click here for more information.

Community Association Awareness Month

March is Community Association Awareness month! Calgary has 156 associations, four of which are in Ward 3.

  • Hidden Valley CA - Hidden Valley
  • Northern Hills CA - Country Hills, Country Hills Village, Coventry Hills, Harvest Hills, Panorama Hills
  • Livingston CA - Livingston
  • Sandstone MacEwan CA - Sandstone, MacEwan Glen

Each Community Association provides immense value to the neighbourhoods it serves. From managing recreation spaces and community gardens, to hosting events year round, joining your local CA is worth the investment.
