State of Local Emergency

On Monday June 13, City Council declared as State of Local Emergency (SOLE)
given the impending rising river water levels and 115mm of expected rainfall
that heighten flood risk. These concerns were alleviated as 25mm of expected
rainfall came in the form of snow and thus removed much of the concern about
flooding. The Ward 7 Councillor and office was in constant contact with Water
Resources and the Calgary Emergency Management Agency who both monitored development and actioned risk measures.

While SOLE remains in effect, we ask
Calgarians to stay connected and be prepared for the emergency as needed. You
may also learn about disasters that pose the greatest risk to our city and
individual communities through the Disaster Risk Explorer.

Property tax payment is due on June 30, 2022, except for property owners who pay monthly through The City's Tax Instalment Payment Plan [TIPP]. Use the property tax calculator to learn about how The City invests your property tax dollar to deliver the municipal services.

McHugh Bluff

Due to recent slope stabilization issues found at the west end of Mchugh Bluff, the pathway has been closed to prevent potential injury to the public and to allow for remediation work in 2023. The closure will remain in place until into 2023. In the interest of public safety, please keep out of the closed areas and use detour routes.

Eau Claire Area Improvements

The New Jaipur Bridge at 3rd Street in Eau Claire is now open to access Prince's Island Park! It's beautiful.

The 2 Street S.W. Bridge by Waterfront and River Run Condos between Prince’s Island Park and the Bow River Pathway will be closed to complete the connection of the west and east sections of the Downtown Flood Barrier. The closure is expected to last until Fall 2022.

Eau Claire Neighbourhood Hub

The Eau Claire & Bow River Lumber Co. building has been moved to a temporary location at 2 Avenue and 3 Street SW until spring 2024. This well-known and well-loved historic building recently received a temporary title of "The Eau Claire Neighbourhood Hub", with the intent of having interested community organizations activate the space through a variety of programs and events. There are a couple of meeting rooms inside; an outdoor accessible deck with moveable seating, bike parking, and porta-potty washrooms in the outside. Stay tuned.

Chip Seal - Back Lane Surfacing

Many have reached out to our office regarding concerns in your back lane. The City of Calgary is conducting pilot projects as an alternative to traditional gravel surfaces on lanes to be resurfaced as a chip seal surface, which is similar to asphalt. Be sure to visit the Engage website to provide your thoughts.

Street Harassment Public Behaviour Bylaw 54M2006

Beginning June 1, 2022, the Public Behaviour Bylaw 54M2006 restricts harassment of another person in a public space. The amended bylaw is one of several actions The City of Calgary is taking to deter the negative behaviour and support victims, making it clear that street harassment will not be tolerated in Calgary.

Clean Energy Improvement program

In December 2021, Calgary’s Clean Energy Improvement Program Bylaw was passed by Calgary City Council, which enables The City to offer CEIP and provides guidelines for how the program should operate in Calgary. The program will be designed to make energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades more accessible to residential property owners. It will offer access to flexible and competitive financing to cover up to 100 per cent of project costs with repayment collected through property tax bills. Stay tuned for more information.
