In the past month, we announced an exciting piece of the ongoing efforts to revitalize, refresh and reenergize downtown Calgary, specifically the Rivers District (The District).
The City of Calgary has reached agreements, in principle, with the Province of Alberta, Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation (CSEC) and Calgary Stampede (CS) to proceed with a significant phase of the Culture + Entertainment District, located in The District, downtown Calgary. This area will feature a suite of public amenities and public infrastructure, including a new community rink, improvements to public spaces and connections to The District, and commercial opportunities, all of which will be anchored by a new publicly-owned modern Event Centre.
Located in The Rivers District, this milestone could not have been reached without the four parties working together and prioritizing Calgary’s future success. This generational investment will play a significant role in unlocking the potential of Calgary’s downtown and completing the Rivers District Master Plan, resulting in a vibrant area and entertainment destination for everyone who calls Calgary home and those who visit Calgary in the future.
As an elected Office we are responsible for listening to, representing, and supporting our diverse communities and ways of life in Ward 7 and across our city. We strive to provide you with accurate information, empower you to have your voice heard, and engage with you in respectful conversations.
We are facing unprecedented pressures on housing affordability in our city with rising rents, lack of housing supply, and lack of housing choice. We need diverse voices to help evaluate, inform, and improve our current reality and find solutions. The Housing Affordability Task Force Recommendations are one element in the movement towards housing affordability in Calgary. With that said, we want to welcome your feedback and engage in conversations with community members in Ward 7 and across Calgary. We want to understand how the Task Force Recommendations would impact your community, the communities that you visit, and your everyday life.
We can only create strong policies and positive outcomes that work for as many people as possible if we hear from many voices. It will never be possible to create policies and practices that everybody agrees with, however, with healthy conversation we can find solutions that provide the best outcomes for our communities, neighbours, and fellow Calgarians. We look forward to hearing more from you and understanding how we can continue to improve housing affordability in Calgary. It’s important to remember that housing affordability affects us all and together we can find solutions so that everyone can choose to live in a community that they love to call home.
